A very good grinder for the price!
I replaced a Cuisinart grinder that, after quite a few years, had dulled to the point of my medium grind coffee being comprised of half medium and half very fine dust, which was clogging my pour-over cone. I also use light roast coffee which is harder to grind consistently. I found that one of the burrs on my Cuisinart was not easily replaceable, so it was time for a new grinder.
There are several features on the Ariete-Delonghi grinder that have it punching above its weight class. First, the bean hopper is removable even when filled with beans. Second, the grind size has 15 different numbers with clicks between the numbers, giving 30 or so grind size options. Third, the start/stop button gives a manual override if you get a setting wrong and realize it mid-grind.
There are a couple of very minor nits that I would change, were I the designer, but they are very minor indeed. First, the indicator that determines the length of time the grinder runs resets to continuous after each grind. I would have had it retain the last setting. Second, the ground coffee bin removal and replacement is tight but becomes second-nature after a few times. One thing, either not pointed out in the instruction manual or I missed it, is that the first “time” setting is continuous, hence the importance of the start/stop button.
Overall, this is a very robust and well-made grinder. The stainless steel burr is truly conical, unlike the similarly priced Cuisinart, and does a fine job of consistently grinding light roast coffee.
Edited to add that this grinder is also much quieter than the Cuisinart grinder. I can’t speak to how quiet it is compared to more expensive grinders, but it seems to be very quiet to me.
